Project Info
The Sycuan Medical Office Building is a new two-story facility situated on a 40,000-square-foot lot next to the existing Sycuan Market. Once open, the building will offer dental, medical, pharmacy, social service, and behavioral health services to the local community. By maintaining a patient-focused design ethos and incorporating sustainable landscape features, the Sycuan Medical Office Building connects people to the land and fosters an environment of rejuvenation, rehabilitation, and healing.
A series of gathering spaces are nestled throughout the site, offering intimate seating areas for contemplation and renewal, connected by a pedestrian trail. The main plaza offers views of the surrounding woodland and southern hillsides, and features native medicinal plants to cultivate a calm, meditative atmosphere. A meandering vertical slat fence secures the area without obscuring views of the natural surroundings. Planted bioswales around the building echo the natural ebb and flow of wet and dry seasons, capturing and treating stormwater runoff. At the building’s edge, native plants and a wildflower hydroseed mix create a seamless transition to the adjacent floodplain. The plant palette features drought-tolerant, native species that blend with the existing landscape of the parking lot, neighboring properties, and floodplain. New and existing trees provide shaded walkways and seating areas, screen adjacent sites, and add greenery near the building.
