Project Info
Pacific Highland Ranch (PHR) Library brings 18,000-square-feet of artful, vibrant, and community-focused library space to residents of San Diego and the Pacific Highlands Ranch community. Designed with sustainability in mind, PHR Library meets LEED-Silver certification standards and features innovative energy conservation and a state-of-the-art recycled water irrigation system.
The new library supports North County San Diego’s bustling coastal area, alleviating pressure from the busy Carmel Valley Library nearby. In addition to its robust collection of library materials, it features a large flexible community room; six meeting rooms; adult, teen, and children’s reading areas; and a fully equipped IDEA Lab or maker space.
Learning extends beyond the walls of the library into exterior reading patios; providing visitors of all ages with space to read, relax, gather, and play. Traditional outdoor furniture like chairs, tables, and benches are paired with whimsical turf mounds and seating boulders. The entry courtyard invokes humanity’s earliest libraries, built with clay inscribed with cuneiform script. Crafted by Janelle Iglesias, the immersive art experience features terracotta tiles inscribed in English, Spanish, and Kumeyaay languages.
