Schmidt Design Group collaborated with Community HousingWorks and Studio E on the creation of Amanceer, a transformative new affordable community in the Linda Vista neighborhood of San Diego, CA. The project includes a total of 96 units. The C-shape configuration of the building creates a central courtyard that acts as a hub of family activity. This expansive courtyard offers a dynamic children’s play area, social spaces, and outdoor BBQ space for resident dining and gathering. The children’s play area, vibrant in color, responds to the playful colors found in the building’s architecture. The project also includes a wide range of fruit trees which residents can enjoy throughout the seasons. A rooftop terrace provides yet another space for residents to gather and socialize. The terrace offers views directly into the adjacent Linda Vista Community Park, and the site’s landscape seek to provide a thoughtful balance of color, texture, interest, drought tolerance, and durability.
