Silver Strand

The Silver Strand “Nature’s Bridge to Discovery” is a narrow 8 mile long environmentally significant stretch of land where the scenic State Highway SR 75 and bike path links the City of Coronado and Imperial Beach just southwest of downtown San Diego. The site is very narrow and exposed to harsh wind and coastal conditions. It contains a variety of threatened and endangered species and is immediately adjacent to an important open space preserve for the California Least Tern. Schmidt Design Group, Inc. provided the design vision, complex permit processing, creating a new multi-purpose hiking trail, scenic overlooks, median landscaping, interpretive education, utility undergrounding, public art, entry monuments for both cities, native re-vegetation, and significant new habitat for the endangered and threatened species in the area.
