Horton Plaza Park

Horton Plaza Park includes restoration of the existing historic park as well as the creation of a new, one acre plaza created by the removal of a large department store building. Partnered with prime consultant Walker Macy of Portland, Oregon, Schmidt Design Group, Inc. is working to develop a space that will strengthen the fabric of the community by creating a new central square and public gathering space in downtown San Diego.

Key design elements include the restoration of a historically significant public park, three new kiosk buildings, restrooms, and a flexible gathering space for large groups. The preferred design alternative offers a semi-circular set of stairs opening up to the main plaza area which will host more than 200 civic events and community celebrations each year. Construction documents are scheduled to be completed in 2012, with construction completion in 2013.
