D Street Beach Access
Services provided by the Schmidt Design Group, Inc. included geological analysis of beach and bluff erosion, analysis of potential wave action at the base of the bluff, design of wood stairway structure and retaining wall, and processing of the coastal permit. The reinforced earth retaining wall system allowed upper bluff stability without extensive bluff disturbance. The design was site specific to meet individual potentials and constraints. The design of the stairways required descending the natural bluff for a vertical drop of more than seventy-five feet. A combination of on grade concrete walkways and landings at the beach were connected between the levels with a wooden stairway system. A unique forty-five foot long span using four foot high gluelam beams to bridge over the most sensitive part of the bluff, was specifically developed.
