Cottonwood Creek Park

Cottonwood Creek Park

Cottonwood Creek Park is an 8 acre neighborhood park located in Encinitas, California. Prior to the construction of the park, 2 intermittent streams (Cottonwood Creek and Moonlight Creek) ran under the property in a large culvert. The park construction “day lighted” the 2 creeks and routed them 600 feet through the park. A siltation basin and wetland/riparian vegetation were planted to naturally cleanse the water as it flows through the park. Amenities include a children’s play area, picnic areas, gazebo, 2 tennis courts, basketball half-courts, and a veterans memorial. Interpretive education is included throughout the park concentrating on information about the 2 creeks, both from a historic and environmental education perspective.
