Camino Ruiz Park
Through a series of workshops, with a steering committee representing the various special interests, Glen Schmidt, FASLA, was able to forge a consensus which was then approved. This 12 acre neighborhood park, which opened in 2006, includes youth baseball fields, a central plaza, picnic areas, children’s play areas, environmental education overlooks, and a restroom/concession building. The children’s play area incorporates Aesop’s fable “The Wind and the Sun” as its theme. A spiral pattern in the resilient surface represents the Native American symbol for wind. There is a sun pattern in the toddler area and the fable is etched around the playground. Natural play opportunities abound throughout the park. A decomposed granite path around the perimeter of the park surrounded by California natives exposes kids to native plant material. Unique educational overlooks throughout the park, each feature a different theme, displaying the natural and cultural wonders of the area.
