Swami's Beach Access and Bluff Stabilization
Swami’s is of the most well known and popular surfing beaches in California. The
design required safely descending the unstable natural bluff for a vertical drop
of more than 75 feet. On-grade concrete stairs and an elevated wood structure were
used. At the base of the bluff a sculptural retaining wall was colored and textured
to simulate bluff face. Horizontal drains and rock bolting techniques were utilized
to stabilize the bluff. Drought tolerant and native vegetation were used to revegetate
the sensitive bluff.
