Beacon's Beach Access and Bluff Stabilization
This beach access requires the design of shoreline access at another very popular surfing beach in Encinitas, CA. The site includes an elevation change of 85 feet and is located on a 350 foot wide historic landslide. The proposed design includes a shoreline protection wall at the base of the slope that will be colored and textured to simulate the natural bluff face. Slope stabilization is included and an at-grade earthen trail will provide public access to the beach. Native vegetation (which will not require permanent irrigation) has been specified.

D Street Beach Access and Bluff Stabilization
Schmidt Design Group, Inc. provided design services for a public access to the beach and bluff stabilization. The design included an on grade pathway, stairs, and an elevated wood structure. The reinforced earth retaining wall system allowed upper bluff stability with out extensive disturbance.

Grandview Beach Access
The design of the stairways for Grandview Beach Access required descending the natural bluff for a vertical drop of more than 70 feet. A combination of on grade concrete walkways and landings at the beach were connected between the levels with a wooden stairway system. Rock bolting , horizontal drains, and a seawall colored and textured to match the adjacent bluff were included in the design.

Swami's Beach Access and Bluff Stabilization
Swami’s is of the most well known and popular surfing beaches in California. The design required safely descending the unstable natural bluff for a vertical drop of more than 75 feet. On-grade concrete stairs and an elevated wood structure were used. At the base of the bluff a sculptural retaining wall was colored and textured to simulate bluff face. Horizontal drains and rock bolting techniques were utilized to stabilize the bluff. Drought tolerant and native vegetation were used to revegetate the sensitive bluff.
